OVPN has grown every month since its launch a little over a year ago. Currently, we have four servers in Stockholm and four in Malmö. The servers in Stockholm handle 43% more traffic than the Malmö servers. An upgrade was called for, and thus we built out the infrastructure in Stockholm and deployed new DNS servers in August to handle the increased load.
We have also decided to buy additional servers to the Stockholm datacenter to handle an even bigger traffic load in the future. For this purpose, we’ve bought a blade server that will be placed in the Stockholm datacenter. The system model is Supermicro 5038ML-H8TRF and contains eight unique nodes (servers). Every node carries a Xeon E3-1241V3 3.5GHz processor, 8 GB RAM, and a 10 GbE networking card. Just like before, these new servers will, of course, be without any permanent media storage.
Below is an image from Supermicro displaying the blade system.
This means we increase the number of servers in Stockholm from four to twelve. Additionally, the new servers are more powerful than the previous ones, which means that even bigger traffic loads can be handled.
Given that the delivery of the blade servers will be according to schedule, we will deploy the servers in the second week of December. At this point, we will post more pictures of the upgraded infrastructure in Stockholm.
