OVPN's Tor-exit relay

David Wibergh, about Announcements

Update: We have discontinued our Tor relay as it affected our IP reputation too much, which lead to increased blocks and captcha displays for our customers.

OVPN has chosen to support the Tor network by running a Tor exit relay that will help millions of Internet users around the world bypass censorship, global mass listening and make them anonymous.

The server is among our other VPN servers in Stockholm, but does not have the same IP range as the VPN servers. This is because an IP belonging to a Tor exit relay is very easily blacklisted and in some cases large parts of the IP block can be blacklisted.

Statistics on the Tor relay can be found at Atlas. Currently, the server is limited to 200Mbit/s but we think it will do well to benefit the Tor network. However, we may increase the speed in the future.

Use OVPN's Tor-relay!

If you solely want to use OVPN's exit relay then you need to edit your torrc file. If Tor Browser Bundle (TBB) is used, then you need to edit torrc in Browser\TorBrowser\Data\Tor. Remove all content and add:

StrictNodes 1
ExitNodes $8AC990FDB5950923A68E43F0C47BCA62CE428967

It's worth mentioning that it is not recommended to only use a single exit relay. It should only be used if you're interested in wanting to achieve faster speeds while sacrificing a bit of your anonymity.
