Transparency Report: April 2015

David Wibergh, about Status & transparency reports

This is the seventh summary we publish that reports the amount of traffic passing through our servers, uptime and traffic spikes.

We had a planned downtime during April and no VPN server experienced any major operational problems. However, we had problems with the server operating WEB01 & SQL01 which caused connection problems for about 7 hours in April.

After the update that was implemented during the planned downtime, there was also a problem for customers with the add-on service Public IPv4 which meant that they were disconnected after 4-6 hours. It took us a while to correct this problem and therefore all customers with Public IPv4 had extra time (14 days) added to their accounts.

Summary

Our VPN servers in April maintained an uptime of at least 99.5%. We have updated our infrastructure to minimize problems when the web server is unavailable. Within a few weeks we will further update the infrastructure and load balance our website.

Traffic increased 13.9% in April to 344 TB from the previous 302 TB in March.

OVPN continues to grow rapidly. In March, OVPN had a little over 1800 customers and by the end of April, OVPN has 2250 customers – a 25% increase!

It remains clear that our great focus on transparency and security is appreciated and that OVPN is a very competitive VPN provider.

Although OVPN continues to grow beyond expectations, we have a lot of capacity left to bring in new customers while ensuring high speeds for our current customers. We are able to manage and encrypt 20 Gbps at present - although we usually only use between 1.5 to 2 Gbps.

We currently have eight servers in operation and we are already planning expansions to more cities in Sweden. Hopefully we will succeed in expanding to both Gothenburg and Umeå in 2015, but we are not sure if we will succeed with both. Negotiations with internet service providers and data centers are slow because there are many factors that need to be discussed.

In April, we launched OVPNbox - a project that we wholeheartedly believe in. Many customers have chosen to either buy or rent OVPNbox because it is the easiest and safest way to protect all devices in the household.
