This is the monthly transparency report for January 2017. OVPN had three unplanned interruptions and one planned interruption during the month of January.

Summary

Our VPN servers had an uptime of over 99.5% during January. In total, OVPN encrypted and anonymized 2031 TB, which is slightly less than the last month.

During the month of January, we did not receive any requests from authorities. To date, we have never given out any customer data to a third party.

Below are the traffic and uptime statistics from our current datacenters. The empty gap in the graphs were caused by the monitoring system being down for a while. No actual server downtime took place.

Analysis

Our datacenter in Malmö has a maximum capacity of 10 Gbit/s. However, during the month of January, the traffic load amounted to 1270 Mbit/s on average.

The highest traffic spike was 2840 Mbit/s, which is 28.4% of the maximum capacity. The 95th percentile landed on 2090 Mbit/s, meaning the traffic load was below 20.9% of the maximum capacity for 95% of the time.

In total, 424 TB of traffic was encrypted and anonymized by the VPN servers in Malmö.

The Malmö datacenter had an uptime of 99.5% during the month of January.

Analysis

OVPN upgraded the capacity in Stockholm under October from 10Gbit/s to 20Gbit/s. During the month of January, the average traffic load was 4340 Mbit/s.

The largest traffic spike recorded was 8110 Mbit/s, which represents 40.6% of the maximum capacity. The 95th percentile landed on 6470 Mbit/s, meaning the traffic load was below 32.4% of the maximum capacity for 95% of the time.

In total, 1,45 PB, meaning 1450 TB of traffic was encrypted and anonymized by the VPN servers in Stockholm.

The Stockholm datacenter had an uptime of 99.5% during the month of January.

We deployed our servers in Frankfurt on January 31st, meaning January marks the 1 year anniversary. The Frankfurt datacenter has a maximum capacity of 10 Gbit/s. However, the traffic load was a only 238.1 Mbit/s on average in January.

The largest traffic spike recorded was 784 Mbit/s, which represents 7.8% of the maximum capacity. The 95th percentile landed on 425.7 Mbit/s, meaning the traffic load was below 4.3% of the maximum capacity for 95% of the time.

In total, 79.7 TB of traffic was encrypted and anonymized in the Frankfurt datacenter.

Frankfurt had an uptime of 99.5% during January.

We deployed our servers in Amsterdam in December 2016, meaning January is the second month the servers have been running. The Amsterdam datacenter has a maximum capacity of 3 Gbit/s. However, the traffic load was only 169.6 Mbit/s on average in January.

The largest traffic spike recorded was 651.2 Mbit/s, which represents 21.7% of the maximum capacity. The 95th percentile landed on 303.9 Mbit/s, meaning the traffic load was below 10.1% of the maximum capacity for 95% of the time.

We deployed our servers in Toronto in December 2016, meaning January is the second month the servers have been running. The Toronto datacenter has a maximum capacity of 3 Gbit/s. However, the traffic load was only 60.49 Mbit/s on average in January.

The largest traffic spike recorded was 212.3 Mbit/s, which represents 7.1% of the maximum capacity. The 95th percentile landed on 114.7 Mbit/s, meaning the traffic load was below 3.8% of the maximum capacity for 95% of the time.
