This is the monthly transparency report for May 2016.

OVPN had one service interruption in May, which was planned since OpenSSL released a new version.

Summary

Our VPN servers had an uptime of almost 100% during May. OVPN broke the traffic record this month again, as a total of 873 TB was encrypted through our servers. The previous traffic record was 811,5 TB. Below you’ll find performance numbers and statistics for our datacenters in Stockholm, Malmö and Frankfurt.

Analysis

Our datacenter in Malmö has a maximum capacity of 10 Gbit/s. However, during May the traffic load amounted to 560 Mbit/s on average.

The highest traffic spike was 1330 Mbit/s, which represents 13,3% of the maximum capacity. The 95th percentile landed on 887 Mbit/s, meaning the traffic load was below 8,9% of the maximum capacity for 95% of the time.

In total 188 TB of traffic was encrypted and anonymized by the VPN servers in Malmö.

The Malmö datacenter had an uptime of 100% during May.

Analysis

Our datacenter in Stockholm has a maximum capacity of 10 Gbit/s. However, during May the average traffic load was 2010 Mbit/s.

The largest traffic spike recorded was 3880 Mbit/s, which represents 38,8% of the maximum capacity. The 95th percentile landed on 3090 Mbit/s, meaning the traffic load was below 30,9% of the maximum capacity for 95% of the time.

In total 672 TB of traffic was encrypted and anonymized by the servers in Stockholm.

The Stockholm datacenter had an uptime of 100% during May.

Analysis

We deployed our servers in Frankfurt on January 31st, meaning May is the fourth full month the servers have been running. The Frankfurt datacenter has a maximum capacity of 10 Gbit/s. However, the traffic load was a mere 37,5 Mbit/s on average in May.

The largest traffic spike recorded was 267 Mbit/s, which represents 2,7% of the maximum capacity. The 95th percentile landed on 85 Mbit/s, meaning the traffic load was below 1% of the maximum capacity for 95% of the time.

As the servers in Frankfurt were recently deployed the traffic amount was significantly lower than for our other datacenters. In total a mere 12,6 TB of traffic was encrypted and anonymized in the Frankfurt datacenter.

Frankfurt had an uptime of 100% during May.

WEB01 had an uptime of 100% in May resulting in a downtime of a couple of minutes.

Database

SQL01 had an uptime of 100% in May resulting in a downtime of a couple of minutes.
